About
Welcome to The Old Tannery / Yr Hen Danerdy, a delightful gem nestled in the heart of Llanrwst, UK. Located on Willow Street, this charming café is more than just a place to grab a meal; it’s a vibrant hub where community and camaraderie flourish.
Stepping inside, you are greeted by a warm atmosphere that invites you to sit back and enjoy the culinary delights on offer. The friendly staff ensures that from the moment you arrive, you feel right at home. Highlighting the café’s reputation, customer reviews echo sentiments of excellent service and delicious food. As René Schellekens notes, “good coffee and a choice of pastries” make it a perfect spot for those looking to unwind.
Speaking of food, The Old Tannery features a mouth-watering menu with something for everyone. From beer-battered onion rings at just £3.50 to a hearty steak ciabatta for £15.50, each dish is crafted with care. Standouts include the tandoori chicken (£12.50), renowned for its savory spices, and the popular fish tacos (£12.00) that never fail to impress. If you're in the mood for something indulgent, don't miss their exquisite luxury hot chocolate — a perfect pairing with one of their exquisite pastries.
The beauty of The Old Tannery lies in its ability to cater to diverse dietary preferences. As Tom Bunting shared, the homemade vegan falafel wrap dazzles with its flavors, proving to be just as satisfying as meat-heavy offerings. Additionally, breakfast aficionados will revel in the quality ingredients used in their morning dishes, as highlighted by Bobby Bradley-Grover’s glowing review of their scrumptious breakfast options.
Beyond the food, The Old Tannery's community spirit shines brightly. It’s a place where locals meet, share stories, and reconnect, steeped in the rich Welsh culture – a sentiment echoed by Carys Bird's experience of enjoying conversations in their native tongue. Whether you're enjoying a solo caffeine fix or gathering with friends and family, this café has managed to carve a niche that feels welcoming and inclusive.
Not to forget, pet lovers will feel equally comfortable here. The staff at The Old Tannery demonstrates a genuine concern for all guests, furry or otherwise, as Lynn H experienced when her nervous puppy was expertly accommodated.
In a world where dining experiences often blend into one another, The Old Tannery / Yr Hen Danerdy stands distinctively apart. It’s a celebration of flavors, friendliness, and a sense of belonging. So whether you’re indulging in a toastie with a pot of tea or sampling one of their delightful desserts, prepare yourself to enjoy an experience that goes beyond food and nurtures the spirit of community.
“ Good coffee and a choice of pastries. Very friendly staff and a friendly atmosphere. A busy and lively place. ”
“ Popped in for lunch having not noticed the place before even though we often walk in and around Llanrwst! The toasted sandwich and pot of tea was delicious and service was second to none we were made very welcome! Many locals there which is always good and lovely to hear our native tongue being spoken profusely! Called back later for coffee and cake just before they shut which was also delicious ! I think this has become our favourite local( ish) cafe to go can’t wait ro try other dishes from the menu! ”

“ Went on a Sunday morning and the staff made my day with their friendliness. The breakfast amazing, really good quality eggs, bacon and sausages as you can see. As well as a budget friendly price... what more could you want? ”
“ So helpful and welcoming! We took our very large nervous puppy and they couldn’t have been more helpful finding a good spot to sit with him. We had a lovely couple of hours in this excellent cafe :) ”
“ We were so pleased to be able to visit Mandy and Brian's new cafe in Llanrwst for lunch - the food was fantastic (freshly cooked and generous portions) and the setting is idyllic! We were regular visitors to Cafe Cha in Watford, and are delighted to report that The Old Tannery / Yr Hen Danerdy offers as friendly a welcome as ever! We hope to explore more of Llanrwst next time we visit. Thanks again! ”
“ Visited this venue very recently on a Sunday morning with my partner & our Labrador. I can honestly say it was the best full English breakfast I’ve had in my ripe age of 34. Brian the chef uses all local produce which was tantamount to the quality of the breakfast. The staff were all super friendly and really accommodating for our dog. The kitchen had enough attention to detail to gift us a free sausage for our furry friend. Furthermore, this quaint establishment is situated right next to the river & is steeped in history, being the old tannery building. If you are in the area, this place is a must to visit. 5 stars all round! Regards, Dave (from the pub) ”
“ Had a lovely afternoon enjoying the sunny views accross the river. Food and coffee were generous and tasty. The service was very friendly and the vibe was very relaxed. ”
